A Video Vignette-Based Tutorial

Behavioral Scripts and Instructional Procedures for Students with Learning and Behavioral Problems: A Video Vignette-Based Tutorial

This video-based tutorial addresses the intersection of basic teaching practices and students' disruptive and explosive behaviors. It addresses two lines of research:

  1. basic, essential teaching practices
  2. students' cognitive schema and scripts as they relate to disruptive and aggressive behavior.

The embedded video vignettes, filmed at the Centennial School of Lehigh University, are paired, with a problematic and a proactive version of each situation. The tutorial includes sheets for viewers to use to rate teacher behaviors in the videos relative to seven target areas of teaching practice discussed in the earlier sections of the tutorial.

This version of the tutorial is meant to be used by any professional, parent, or other stakeholder interested in this topic.

Professional educators may request access to the full stand-alone PowerPoint and video files here.

A presenter’s version of the PowerPoint will be made available in the coming months, with briefer slide text, and speaker notes for the presenter. That version will be designed for use in school and allied agency in-service and workshop training sessions by a variety of training personnel. In the meantime, school and allied agency personnel are encouraged to adapt these slides and the accompanying videos to meet their specific training needs.

This tutorial and the accompanying videos may be freely used for training purposes by non-commercial organizations engaged in preparing teachers, other school staff, and allied professional personnel for meeting the needs of at-risk youth. Commercial use and/or sale is prohibited.
